HBO internship GUI development of a sensing system

What's your job?

Background:
A measurement and sensor system is currently being prototyped in Tata Steel Research & Development. The system will be used by our business units for a regular check on status and conditions of manufacturing equipment and facilities, either prior to the installation or during the maintenance. In the current stage, multiple spot measurements are to be performed manually for the object to be measured. In the future, the system may be automated for scanning on a large surface. 

Assignment:
The assignment is to design and develop a user friendly GUI (Graphical User Interface) application for the sensing system. It is preferred to use Python for the GUI development. It is envisaged that the app will have the following functions:

• To interface and control the measurement instrument;
• To process, visualise and store the data;
• To playback the stored data.

You will work in the MDP (Measurement, Data processing & Prototyping) group in Research and Development. You will first get acquainted with the operation of the prototyped system in our lab, then develop and test your code with the system. There is also opportunity to visit the business unit, and to see the actual equipment and facilities that will be measured by the prototyped system. 

Is this you?

• A third year HBO student who follows Computer Engineering (Technische informatica), Electrical engineering (Elektrotechnik), or relevant disciplines;
• Skilled in Python, GUI design and data visualisation;
• Basic knowledge about electronic test equipment;
• Looking for an internship for 3-4 months

The project will be conducted within R&D department of Tata Steel Ijmuiden with great opportunities for networking and being closely involved in the future developments. On a daily base you will working in the R&D innovation centre office, surrounded with other students and colleagues with different kinds of know-how.
