Are you the (prospective) specialist in sound and vibration who will advance the field within Tata Steel?

What's your job?

Nearly all installations and factories at Tata Steel produce sound, necessitating requirements for sound emissions. When sound emissions exceed permissible levels, technical solutions can be applied to reduce them. In this role, you will work on technical solutions for existing installations as well as the design of new ones.

Collaboration and information exchange are paramount in this role at all stages of projects. By involving sound aspects early in the design process, effective and maintenance-friendly provisions can be made. The challenge is to minimize the production of sound and vibrations in a cost-efficient manner.

Your responsibilities as a Technical Specialist include:

  • Specifying installations in investment projects to comply with environmental permits and workplace sound requirements.
  • Providing advice in all stages of a project.
  • Designing and/or specifying soundproof equipment such as silencers, vibration isolation, and enclosures.
  • Conducting various sound and vibration measurements or developing technical concepts to improve the sound and vibration situation.
  • Serving as a knowledge repository and point of contact for factories regarding sound and vibration issues.

Tata Steel is embarking on some of the largest 'once in a lifetime' programs ever. In addition to 'business as usual,' such as steel production, ambitious programs are underway, including:

  • Transitioning from coal to hydrogen for the production of raw iron to make Tata Steel IJmuiden completely CO2-free by 2050, with the development of these new technologies at the forefront.
  • Implementing Tailored Agreements with the government to operate Tata Steel IJmuiden sustainably in its environment. This program involves reducing nitrogen and mitigating dust, odor, and noise pollution for the immediate surroundings.
  • Innovating in new advanced steel types and the assets required for them, for the products of the future.

The appeal of this role lies in contributing to a significant societal and corporate interest: improving the well-being of people in the area and those working at Tata Steel IJmuiden. Because sound and vibration considerations are crucial in almost all projects, you will be involved in most of them.

What you conceive and develop will be realized. You continuously apply theory to practice, collaborating frequently in project teams with the Health Safety & Environment department, the measurement group of the Blast Furnace Technical Service, and the installation managers of various factories.

Is this you?

  • Completed education at wo/hbo level in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, or similar.
  • Demonstrable experience with large industrial installations and working in project teams.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and design and implement practical solutions.
  • Strong motivation to (further) develop in the field.
  • Analytical, persuasive, and good listening skills.

What do we offer?

Primarily a position where you are at the forefront of technology and execution, but in this versatile role, we offer you more, namely:

  • You will receive a basic monthly salary that can range up to € 9.667,42 gross per month depending on education and experience.
  • 10% fixed allowances per year: a fixed year-end bonus of 2% and 8% holiday allowance.
  • Plus, a variable profit-sharing.
  • You can maintain a good work-life balance by participating in the flexible hours scheme. With this, you can save time off and even gain extra days off per year.
  • Standard 36 days off per year: minimum of 26 vacation days and 10 ADV (reduction of working hours) days.
  • Excellent secondary employment conditions including a contribution to your health insurance and an expense allowance.
  • A VCA certificate is required to start. If you don't have one, we offer you the opportunity to obtain it.

What's your department?

The Projects & Technical Consultancy (PTC) department is a proactive and professional provider of project management and engineering services based on specific process, installation, and technical knowledge. As an internal projects bureau of over 250 employees, we provide our services for the realization and continuous improvement of Tata Steel IJmuiden's production facilities.

The Ventilation, Sound, and Lubricant Technology (VGS) department is a team of specialists located at the headquarters and a stone's throw away from the factory premises. They are the experts in their field, providing technical expertise to projects and factories. Due to the upcoming retirement of the current senior technical specialist, investment is being made in your development to quickly acclimate to the role.

A green, clean, and circular steel company that everyone is proud of—that's our ambition. We aim to improve how people work, live, and move around the world through sustainable steel. To achieve this, we need talents like you. Will you join us in shaping the future?
